You'll only need a 3rd party launcher if you want to install derivative mods or if you feel the need for a more advanced server browser. I highly recommend playing on vanilla servers as most mod servers are heavily modified with 1,000's of vehicles/buildings/weapons/etc. I already made a post describing how to look for and join DayZ mod servers without using 3rd party software here. Can't bookmark favorites, and it shows ALL mod variant servers so it's hard to tell regular mod servers from Epoch/Overpoch/etc. The downside? Arma 2's multiplayer server browser sucks. This is the fastest/easiest/most reliable way to install the mod. VOILA!! You're done!
